Study Title: Is COVID-19 transmitted through human milk? Implications for breastfeeding and human milk banking.
Are you breastfeeding and currently positive for COVID-19? Did you test positive during your pregnancy? Have you received or considering getting the COVID-19 vaccine while breastfeeding or during pregnancy? Consider participating in our research study!
The Canadian Paediatric Society recommends breastfeeding during COVID-19 infection. Breastmilk has immune factors that help to fight against viral infections. We believe that in the case of COVID-19, the mother may even make antibodies specific to this virus and provide extra protection to her infant. Our team of experts in breastfeeding, human milk banking and infectious disease are working together to answer these questions, but we need your help!
Why are we doing this study?
- To determine the presence of the COVID-19 virus and its antibody in breastmilk of mothers who have tested positive for COVID-19
What is involved?
- Provide 3 small samples of your breastmilk
- Provide some background information about you and your baby
